Amberg Horror Festival starts this week

The Amberg Horror Film Festival starts this Tuesday, just in time for Halloween (though I don’t suppose they celebrate Halloween in Germany), with a really extensive schedule featuring over 40 features, a whack of shorts, and several horror-themed bands.

Trailers for the features, which include Canadian indie Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer and the universally acclaimed Let the Right One In (currently sitting pretty at 97% on Rotten Tomatoes), can be found right here.

Legend of the Seven Bloody Torturers is showing at 3pm on November 1st with three other movies: Initiation, Getting Out, and Boris Sajtinac’s 50-minute animated film The Killer of Montmartre (Le Tueur de Montmartre). Here are some details about the film, courtesy a festival website:

Tired of his domineering mother, Francois, an artist, decides to kill her. His killing spree doesn’t end there and soon the authorities are looking for a serial killer. One day he notices a mysterious entrance that leads him into an arctic wasteland, ruled by Death. Death regales the artist with tales life and love: his adventures with the navy, the great love of his life, the submarine captain and the child they had together. The artist thinks he can outwit both the law and Death but he will soon meet his master.

Full of droll humour The Killer Of Montmartre is imbued with the anarchic spirit of Terry Gilliam’s Monty Python animations and the macabre touch of comic book creator Richard Sala. Sajtinac’s vividly rendered expressionistic backgrounds prove a match for his ability to mix surreal whimsy with irreverent wit.
